SEVERN, MD — Police said an officer and another driver were hospitalized July 9 after an on-duty crash in Severn. Authorities explained that medics took the officer, a 1.5-year Bureau of Patrol veteran, to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

An incident report noted that the officer was in serious but stable condition. The other driver went to an unnamed hospital with minor injuries, the write-up added.

Officials mentioned that the marked 2017 Ford Explorer-Police Interceptor was responding to a call with its emergency lights and sirens on. The officer was heading east on Annapolis Road and approaching the intersection with Rockenbach Road around 8:44 p.m., the press release stated.

The officer entered the intersection on a green light, authorities wrote. The report shared that a 2012 Hyundai Sonata merged from Rockenbach Road onto eastbound Annapolis Road, but it did not yield to the oncoming police cruiser. The officer's SUV then struck the Hyundai sedan, officials informed.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department indicated that its Traffic Safety Section is still investigating. Officers have not pressed any charges.
