Photos: Army Beats Navy in Annual Flag Football Game

Army topped Navy 26-0 in the 12th edition of the flag football game at Fort Meade.

A spirited crowd of soldiers, sailors and others from the Fort Meade community came out Thursday for the 12th annual Army-Navy flag football game.

The Army team, made up of military police officers on base, appeared unfazed by a muddy field and topped the Navy athletes, 26-0.

Staff Sgt. Marty Hunt, a military police officer, was named MVP.

The game serves as a warmup to the big Army-Navy football game on Saturday, to be played at FedEx Field in Landover.

"What you see around you is real community, regardless of service, regardless of fence lines," Installation Commander Col. Edward Rothstein said. "The tradition of Army-Navy football has been going on for a long, long time. The upcoming game on Saturday, this is just a great precursor to that."

Rothstein had predicted a 36-0 win for Army, so he wasn't too far off.

The West Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce raised money and organized a tailgate for the game.

Earlier Thursday, soldiers and sailors performed lighthearted "vandalism" of garrison offices and some residences to show their team spirit.

"I imagine it was all in good fun, but I've got some military police trying to figure it out," Rothstein joked.

The commander predicted a 24-18 win by Army over Navy Saturday. Navy has won the last nine contests between the two teams, with Army last winning in 2001.
