Readers' Choice: Stone Circle for Tax Prep

Americans have a little more than a week to file their tax returns, and there are plenty of businesses in the area set up to help.

Readers in Odenton and Severn named as the top spot to go for last-minute tax help, based on the number of .

Stone Circle is located just off the roundabout on Odenton Road, and offers tax and financial planning for businesses and individuals.

The family-owned firm earned rave reviews from clients, many of whom said they've been using its services for years.

Fran Korwek and Chuck Posey own the business and have operated it in the Odenton/Gambrills area since 1995. Stone Circle employs six people, including members of Korwek's family. His daughter, Kristi Hill, and son, Lex, are full-time employees. Korwek's wife, Angela, also helps out during busy tax season.

"We've been here, we're going to be here, and you're going to get the same people every time," Korwek said in an interview Friday in his office.

Korwek said the firm is competitive with national tax preparation firms like H&R Block, but offers the advantage of more personal, year-round service and a mandatory second review of all returns.

While computer programs has helped make filing returns easier, the tax code has gotten more complex over the years, he said. He encouraged anyone with a complicated return to stop by.

April is Stone Circle's busy time of year. Korwek encourages clients to set up tax preparation appointments a year in advance, and to take care of their returns early. He says small businesses should consider meeting with the firm in December.

"Be as organized as you can, and next year, don't wait too late," he said.

Korwek has been involved in the local business community for years, and was chapter head of the He currently serves as the group's executive secretary.

His daughter, Kristi Hill, is the incoming Rotary chapter president.
