Rieve's Moves into Temporary Location

has moved into a temporary spot on Telegraph Road, while work begins on moving its historic building to a new location.
The deli and convenience store will operate across from the Western District police station, in the building formerly occupied by the former pet daycare center and next to Seven Oaks Auto.
Rieve's employees said they expect to be in the temporary spot for about six months. Workers were still moving in shelving and bringing in food items as of Monday.

Over the next six months, the existing Rieve's building on Piney Orchard Parkway will be picked up and moved to the southwest, facing Odenton Road. A new Walgreen's pharmacy will then take its place.
Walgreen's officials said they hope to open by this fall.

The Rieve's building is being kept intact because of its historic value.
The Odenton Heritage Society will have an open house at its museum on March 4, with a special celebration of the Rieve's store history.
The sons of store founder Werner C. Rieve will on hand to talk with residents about what it was like to work in the store in the 1930s and 1940s.
