Road Work Ahead: Where Crews Are Working on Highways This Weekend

A spring weekend without snow means that Maryland State Highway Administration crews will be out working on roads around the state.

Here’s a list of expected work areas and road closures planned for this weekend. 

Anne Arundel County

• Southbound I-97 between New Cut Road and Brightview Drive – Concrete patching – Two right lanes will be closed from 4 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Allegany County

• Eastbound and westbound I-68 between Johnson Street/Beall Street and MD 51 (Industrial Boulevard) – Pavement repair – Continuous single lane closures until April 10.

Baltimore County

• Inner loop I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) ramp to MD 144 (Fredrick Road) – Bridge replacement – Temporary ramp closure.

• I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) bridge over Hammonds Ferry Road and the Patapsco River - Routine bridge inspection – Single lane closure on the outer loop from 5:30 a.m. until noon Sunday.

• Southbound and northbound I-95 at the Baltimore/Howard County line (bridge over the Patapsco River) – Pavement repair - Double lane closures from 10 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.

• Eastbound and westbound MD 122 (Security Boulevard) between Ingleside Avenue and I-70 – BGE utility relocation – Left lanes blocked until mid-April. 

Calvert County

• MD 231 (Hallowing Point Road) Bridge over the Patuxent River (The Benedict Bridge) – Bridge drain cleaning – Single lane closures on Sunday from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Carroll County

• MD 27 (Ridge Road) between Gillis Falls Road and Warfieldsburg Road – BGE utility work (gas line expansion) - Single lane closures on MD 27 Sundays through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. 

Montgomery County

• MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue) at Sligo Creek Parkway- Bridge deck rehabilitation – Single and double lane closures Mondays through Fridays between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m., as well as overnight Sundays through Saturdays from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m.

• MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) at Ellsworth Drive – Concrete bus pad construction – Single and double lane closures from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. 

• Georgia Avenue between MD 390 (16th Street) and the Washington D.C. Line – Roadway grinding and patching – Single and double lane closures from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.

• MD 355 (Rockville Pike/Wisconsin Avenue) from MD 191 (Bradley Lane/Bradley Boulevard) to MD 187 (Old Georgetown Road) - Traffic signal utility conduit work – Single and double lane closures from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Prince George’s County

• Westbound MD 193 (Greenbelt Road) between Rhode Island Avenue and Southway – Paving/Resurfacing – Double lane closures from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday. 

• MD 212 (Powder Mill Road) bridge over I-95 and the Little Paint Branch - Routine bridge inspection – Alternating double lane closures on southbound I-95 lane closure on the outer loop from 5:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sunday.

Somerset County

• Northbound US 13 (Ocean Highway) at Loretto Road – Hazardous tree removal – Temporary 15 minute total closures on Saturday from 7 a.m. until noon.

Washington County

• Northbound I-81 Bridge over the Potomac River (at the Maryland/West Virginia Line) – Concrete patching – Single lane closures from 7 p.m. Sunday until 4 a.m. Monday.

• I-70 Bridge over I-81 – Concrete patching – Single lane closures from 7 p.m. Sunday until 4 a.m. Monday.
