Several Severn Townhouses Damaged By Fire
Several units along Pioneer Drive in Severn were damaged by an early morning fire Friday and a firefighter was taken to the hospital.

SEVERN, MD — A two-story, middle-of-the-row townhouse in Severn caught on fire early Friday morning that resulted in one firefighter being taken to the hospital and extensive damage occurring to adjacent homes. The fire broke out at the home located at 8491-8499 Pioneer Drive at approximately 1:53 a.m. It spread quickly and took almost 50 firefighters upwards of 45 minutes to get it under control.
The homes at 8493 and 8495 Pioneer Drive suffered significant damage, while lesser damage was reported at 8491, 8497 and 8499 Pioneer Drive. While everyone who was asleep was able to evacuate safely, 10 people are now displaced and five are being assisted by the Red Cross.
One firefighter was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in good condition with a medical-related issue identified by paramedics while the firefighter was in the rehab process. The cause of the fire is being investigated by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
