Severn Couple Plans to Pay Off Mortgage with $50K Win

SEVERN, MD — Lottery luck struck for the second time for a Severn couple. After winning a $500,000 Multi-Match jackpot more than a decade ago, they returned to the Lottery’s Winner’s Circle last week to claim a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize.

The winners paid $4 for six lines of numbers for the Nov. 12 drawing, and it was the very first line on the ticket that did the trick. They matched the five winning numbers of 1, 4, 7, 27 and 35.

“The first time we won, we were shocked,” the wife told Maryland Lottery officials. “This time it was a little more subdued. But I couldn’t believe it, that we’d won two times.”

After spending much of their Multi-Match prize on their family, the retired couple plans to finish paying off the mortgage with this prize. They will also start planning a celebration for their 40th wedding anniversary in 2017.

“I was thinking about buying a car, but then she said ‘No,’ ” the husband said with a smile. A daily Bonus Match 5 player, he purchased the lucky ticket at Severn Liquors located at 8265 West B&A Road in Severn.
