Name Of Pedestrian Released Who Died Walking Against Signal
Police have identified a Severn man died Nov. 11 as he tried to walk across Laurel Fort Meade Road, say Anne Arundel County Police.

MARYLAND CITY, MD — Anne Arundel County Police have released the name of a man who was killed Sunday night, Nov. 11, as he tried to walk against a signal and was hit by a minivan, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The accident happened shortly after 6 p.m. on Laurel Fort Meade Road (MD-198) at Russett Green W. in Maryland City.
Michael Eugene Calloway, 51, who had lived in the 8300 block of Flintlock Court in Severn, died at the scene. Authorities say his address at the time of his death is unknown.
Investigators say a Ford minivan was westbound on Laurel Fort Meade Road when Calloway began crossing the roadway from the nearby gas station using the crosswalk. Security video shows the pedestrian had a “Do Not Walk” signal and tried to time his steps in between gaps in the westbound traffic when he was hit in the last lane he attempted to cross.

The driver of the Ford minivan — a 54-year-old man from Beltsville — stopped and remained at the scene. He was not injured; police have not released his name.
Police say Calloway was taken to Laurel Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His body was taken to the medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be Calloway's failure to obey the crosswalk
signal and subsequently failing to yield to roadway traffic, police said. The case will be reviewed by the state's attorney.
