State to Hold Meeting on Chesapeake Terrace Landfill

The Maryland Department of the Environment will have an information session for the public regarding the rubble landfill, which would be located below Patuxent Road in Odenton.

The Maryland Department of Environment will hold a afternoon to discuss an application by operators of the proposed Chesapeake Terrace rubble landfill in Odenton.

National Waste Managers Inc. is seeking approval to use thousands of gallons of groundwater per day for the operation, which would be located to the south of Patuxent Road.

According to a notice of the public hearing, National Waster Managers wants  permission to use an average of 39,000 gallons per day of groundwater from the Upper Patapsco aquifer, and withdraw an average of 31,000 gallons of stormwater runoff.

A representative from National Waste Managers is expected to be on hand to provide and update on the project, and time will be set aside for public comment.

National Waste Managers is a subsidiary of The Halle Cos., the developer of Seven Oaks and other projects in Odenton.

The Chesapeake Terrace landfill is separate and unrelated to the proposed landfill by Tolson and Associates to the southeast. But like the Tolson landfill, plans have dragged on for years as The initial application for the landfill dates back to the early 1990s. 

The Chesapeake Terrace landfill has faced heavy opposition from residents, with groups including the Forks of the Patuxent Improvement Association, the Greater Odenton Improvement Association and others testifying against it at various hearings over the years.
