A 15-year-old Maryland girl was reportedly raped in a school hallway as students were filing into the high school building for classes – and none of them knew about the attack.

Wicomico County Superintendent of Schools John Fredericksen described the case as “gut-wrenching.”

Parkside High School students told DelMarvaNow.com Tuesday they were shocked to hear there had been a rape in a school hallway the day before.

The rape occurred at about 8 a.m. Monday, when most Parkside students would have been in their first class of the day. The suspect, a Parkside student, reportedly made sexual advances toward the 15-year-old girl, then pulled her down a hallway and raped her, according to charging documents.

“This is just horrible,” Fredericksen said. “Our children should be safe, our families should be safe, to do their very best.”

Jocori Marece Scarborough, 17, of Delmar is charged as an adult with eight crimes, including first- and second-degree rape, first- and second-degree assault and kidnapping. Online court records show he was released on $100,000 bond.

School officials have not said whether the incident was recorded on camera.
