Support the Troops With 'Spirit' Footballs

Local residents and business owners can help support a tailgate at the upcoming Army-Navy flag football game at Fort Meade by purchasing and signing special footballs.

For $20, anyone can buy a “spirit ball” and sign it with a message promoting their cause or business, or to simply write a note of support for the troops.

The balls will be distributed to players and spectators at the game.

The fundraiser is being organized by the military affairs committee of the , which holds the tailgate each year.

“This is a chance to get behind the troops and show that we support them,” said Matt Hauser, director of the local GEICO office in Severn, who serves on the military affairs committee.

This year’s flag football game will be held on Dec. 8 at Mullins Field on Fort Meade. The tailgate begins at 3 p.m. and the game will be at 4 p.m.
