Top 5 Stories: Doomsday Budget, Fatal Accident, Teacher Returns

I don't know about you guys, but last week was a doozy. Lots of stuff happening all around town, from politics to crime and events in our schools.

The 90-day session for Maryland lawmakers ended Monday but lawmakers were unable to reach a broad deal on the budget, transportation funding or table games at casinos. Anne Arundel County could face big cuts under a so-called "doomsday" budget, unless Gov. Martin O'Malley calls for a special session.

Owners in the community voted in Derek Olszanowski and Jessica O'Kane, who had campaigned on a platform of free iPads and cookies for all residents.

OK, we're kidding about that.

The community also re-elected Kelly Bowlus, who has served as board secretary. All of the elected board members will serve three-year terms.  

Woman Dies After Car Hits Wall in Waugh Chapel

Police reports said that on Monday, a car was heading down a ramp into a residential garage in the Village at Waugh Chapel and smashed into a wall. The passenger of the car, an older woman, was killed. The driver, her husband, was critically hurt.

According to police, Tamika Williams attracted a crowd and waved a handgun at them, before fleeing into a house. Police said she was having a dispute with a neighbor. They charged her with a number of offenses, including assault and reckless endangerment.

Andrew Cizek had been reassigned in February, after someone alerted school officials to some interactions with students on Twitter. On Tuesday, he returned to his duties as an Advanced Placement psyschology and comparative government teacher.
