Woman Nearly Shot Outside Her Home In Anne Arundel County: Police

After yelling in the street, this man shot at a woman standing outside her home, Anne Arundel County police said.

SEVERN, MD — Around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, a man rolled up to the 7600 block of Sandy Farm Road in Severn and started shouting in the street, police said. An incident report added that a woman told him to leave.

The report noted that the suspect started to drive away, but he stopped and got out of his vehicle. He then fired several shots toward the victim before finally leaving, officers indicated.

Police said they spotted the suspect's car parked outside a nearby home. The Anne Arundel County Police Department arrested the accused Severn man, Johnnar Nicholas Hernandez, and searched his vehicle. Officers reported finding a loaded 9 mm handgun and a shell casing.

Hernandez, 39, faces a felonious charge of first-degree assault. He is also up against the following misdemeanors:

  • Reckless endangerment
  • Having a handgun on him
  • Carrying a loaded gun on his person
  • Possessing a firearm in his vehicle
  • Transporting a loaded weapon in his car
  • Using a gun to commit a felony

Police also charged Hernandez with a crime related to shooting the gun. This offense has a special class. It is not a felony or a misdemeanor.

Officers will hold Hernandez until his Wednesday-morning bail hearing. His case does not yet list a trial date.
