Woman's Hand Broken By Odenton Robber: Police

An Odenton man who knew the victim is in jail on assault and robbery charges in the Annapolis attack.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Odenton man is in jail on charges he broke a woman's hand during a robbery last month.

Annapolis Police say Jaonte Coates, 25, of Odenton was arrested Tuesday and charged with the April 2 robbery that occurred in the unit block of New Vernon Street.

According to police, Coates pushed the victim to the ground and stole money from her pocket.

She suffered broken bones in her hand and a cut on her nose from the assault, authorities said.

The victim knew Coates and officers obtained a warrant for his arrest.

He was charged this week with robbery, first- and second-degree assault, theft, and reckless endangerment.

Coates is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
