WINDSOR MILL, MD — A man died after a house fire near Randallstown Monday afternoon, according to officials. It took about four hours to bring the blaze under control at the home, which sustained a partial collapse.

Ronald Eugene Wallace, 71, was found near the front door of his home in the 2800 block of Ridge Road, authorities reported.

Firefighters reported finding heavy smoke showing when they were called to the residence at 2:06 p.m. They found Wallace suffering from life-threatening injuries and took him to a local hospital, where officials said he died.

Crews were forced out of the home because a large part of the first floor collapsed into the basement, according to officials. Before that, firefighters also evacuated upon hearing what they thought was ammunition going off on the bottom level, WBAL reported.

Because there were no hydrants in the area, tankers were requested to provide water.
