3 Names in the Running for New Owings Mills Elementary School

Take online survey to pick name for new school opening in northwest Baltimore County in 2015.

Baltimore County’s newest elementary school needs a name, and the school system has opened a survey so the public can help decide. The online survey is open until midnight on Sunday, Dec. 28.

Intended to relieve overcrowding at New Town and Woodholme elementary schools, the school is currently under construction west of Owings Mills Boulevard, at 9435 Lyons Mill Road, slated for an August 2015 opening.

First, however, it needs a name, and the school system is asking the public to vote through an online survey. These names appear on the survey:

The names were culled from more than 100 submissions that members of the public submitted in October, according to a statement from Baltimore County Public Schools.

“Our communities really came through with some wonderful names; your pride in our new school really showed,” Maralee Clark, principal of the new school, said. “Now we need everyone’s help one more time to select the best name for our new school. We hope everyone takes a few moments to cast a ballot and let us know your preference.”

Each person can submit one vote until the survey closes at midnight on Sunday, Dec. 28. After votes are tallied, they will be reported to the Board of Education during its Jan. 6 meeting.
