OWINGS MILLS, MD — A woman and her dog were killed in a pedestrian crash that occurred late Wednesday on Interstate 795 in Baltimore County, officials said.
Maryland State Police identified the woman in a Thursday release as Madison Cecille Davis, a 31-year-old from Westminster.
Authorities said the incident occurred on the southbound I-795 lanes near Mt. Wilson Lane. Troopers had responded to the scene shortly after 8 p.m.
Based on witness testimony and preliminary findings, State Police said Davis parked her car on the left shoulder of the interstate after running out of gas and, for unknown reasons, attempted to cross the roadway with her leashed dog.
Both Davis and her dog were pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by the driver of a Hyundai Sonata. State Police said the driver was hospitalized.
The fatal collision also saw the roadway closed for approximately three hours.
An investigation into the case is ongoing.
