Baltimore County Attorney Pleads Guilty to Receiving Payment in Drugs: Officials
Lawyer will be disbarred for actions that included smuggling drugs into Baltimore County Detention Center, state's attorney said.
A Baltimore County lawyer will be disbarred as part of her guilty plea that she received drugs as payment for legal services and smuggled them to clients in the Baltimore County Detention Center, officials reported Friday.
Jill Swerdlin, 47, of Phoenix, pleaded guilty in Baltimore County Circuit Court Friday to distribution of Buprenorphine, delivery of drugs to a confined person and conspiracy to possess Oxycodone, a statement from the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.
Swerdlin admitted she had been receiving Oxycodone as payment for legal services and smuggling Suboxone strips into the Baltimore County Detention Center while visiting clients, that statement said.
She became addicted to pain medication after a crash in 2009 on Allegheny Avenue that fractured her cheek, according to Baltimore magazine.
During the investigation, officials seized guns, heroin, cocaine and Oxycodone from her residence, WBAL reported.
As part of the plea agreement, Swerdlin will consent to disbarment, according to the Baltimore County state's attorney's office.
The state's attorney's office reported sentencing is set for July 29.
