Baltimore Ravens Trade Haloti Ngata

Defensive tackle will be playing in Michigan, sources say.

Former Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata will be playing for the Detroit Lions in the upcoming season, the Ravens announced Tuesday.

The announcement came as the market opened for free agency at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Ngata missed much of the Baltimore Ravens’ last season due to a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy after testing positive for Adderall.

To stay in Baltimore, Ngata was seeking a $16 million salary, according to NFL Media, which reports the team could not convince him to come down from that number amid concerns about the salary cap.

The move will free up $8.5 million for Baltimore to spend on salaries this year, according to the Ravens.

Ngata was a member of the Ravens for nine seasons, his entire NFL career.

The trade of Ngata to the Lions came as Detroit lost defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh following a $19 million salary offer from the Miami Dolphins, according to NBC Sports.
