Nerf Gun Threat Leads To Evacuation At Martin's West: Police

A man was taken for a medical evaluation following an incident that cleared out Martin's West, police reported.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Police said that a man with a Nerf gun prompted the evacuation of Martin's West Friday morning.

The 33-year-old man was taken to an area hospital for evaluation following the incident in the 6800 block of Dogwood Road, according to officials.

At the event hall, the man had allegedly gone onto the stage, armed with a Nerf gun, and threatened suicide. Police said he had also put four small bags under tables at the function.

The facility was evacuated, and the Baltimore County hazardous devices and explosive detection team investigated. They determined the bags had clothing and cash inside, and the building was deemed safe.

Martin's West had been hosting the Maryland Washington Minority Companies Association, according to Fox 45, which said that Baltimore's police commissioner and mayor were among the 1,000 people attending.

The threat was determined to be false, and Martin's West reopened, the Baltimore County Police Department reported after 11:40 a.m. on Friday. All scheduled events were continuing as planned.
