2 Fur 1 Extended
Baltimore Humane Society is encouraging adoption of bonded pairs -- cats and dogs who are best of friends.

During the last few months, we've seen a record number of pets left homeless at Baltimore Humane Society.ย Cats, in particular, have us bursting at the seams.ย As anxious as we are to find them homes, we work very hard to make sure the potential home is the right one for each animal.ย In some cases, for instance, we have what we call "bonded pairs"-- two dogs or cats who we will only adopt together.ย These are usually cats that have come in as a couple, but there are instances when they actually bond while living together in one of our cat communal rooms. We also have several pairs of dogs who have come in together or bonded while staying here with us.
To encourage adoption of our bonded felines we ran a 2 Fur 1 Special last month, and have decided to extend it through January because of its success.ย We sent 56 cats home to their new families in December! The hope is that this trend will continue so our cats and kittens can now spend their lives together with their best friends.ย
On a less positive note, we only had 12 dogs adopted in December.ย Sadly, some of our canine friends have been here as long as seven months.ย If you are unable to make a long-term adoption commitment, but would like to help us care for these great guys consider fostering.ย It allows dogs who are feeling the stress of a long-term shelter stay to go into a relaxed home setting.ย Plus it also lets us make room for even more homeless dogs, sometimes from high-kill shelters.ย

The Baltimore Humane Society was founded in 1927 by Mrs. Elsie Seeger Barton.ย As a privately funded non-profit organization, we receive no funding from the county, city, or federal governments, and we are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or any other animal welfare organization. To support animal care operations, BHS depends on the income from fundraising events, and donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations in order to continue its day-to-day operations and properly care for the animals at the shelter.ย For more information about BHS, and how you can contribute, volunteer, adopt, or foster, please visit www.bmorehumane.org or call 410-833-8848, or text the word โPAWโ to 80000 to donate.
