Best Friends Furever

Throughout the month of December, adopt one cat and bring along his or her feline friend for free. It's our way of keeping our bonded cats like Geo and Otie together forever.

Throughout the month of December, Baltimore Humane Society is running a 2 Fur 1 Special. That means you can adopt one cat and bring along his or her feline friend for free.ย  It's our way of keeping our bonded cats and kittens together forever.ย Some bonded pairs come together to the shelter, but there are others who become bonded once they are here.ย  Let me tell you about two such cats โ€“ Otie and Geo.

Otie is about four and half years old. He is a male, Maine Coon mix who was brought here in March when his owners moved away.ย  Geo, a female domestic shorthair, is about a year and half old.ย  She was turned into Baltimore Humane Society in March after being found wandering around in some yards. ย

As it turns out, both cats had shy personalities.ย  Because of their shyness, each was repeatedly passed over by the public.ย  This unfortunately, is a common phenomenon in animal shelters. The pets with robust personalities are the ones that get noticed when potential adopters come through looking to make a connection with a homeless resident. The shy ones who stay toward the back of their cages get ignored.ย  ย

In the past year, many wonderful renovations were made to Bmore Humane, and one such change was the addition of cat communal rooms where several cats can live in a more homelike room rather than being in one of our โ€œcat condoโ€ cages.ย  These rooms are especially good for longer-term residents.ย  So Otie and Geo, both now long-term residents because of their shyness, were moved to a cat communal room with three other cats.ย  It wasnโ€™t long before the two found each other and became fast friends.ย  Now at any given time, youโ€™ll see the two sleeping on the same bed together, grooming together, or lounging on the same windowsill together. They have become inseparable.ย  The two timid felines have even begun coming out of their shells, giving each other the courage to be more outgoing.ย

We hate to break these best friends apart and have them adopted separately, so if you can make room in your heart and home for two new furry friends, the 2 Fur 1 Special is a great way to keep best buddies together forever.ย  In the case of Otie and Geo, a caring member of the community has offered to sponsor their adoption fees if theyโ€™re adopted together.ย  So come out and visit!ย  Your best friend may be waitingโ€ฆ
