Flu Vaccine and Alternative Options

Learn 8 alternative solutions to getting the flu vaccine! These tips will keep you healthy all year round.

So what really is in a vaccine? And why is it not a health conscious decision to get the flu vaccine? Well, I will share with you some facts, my thoughts and offer some alternative advice (if you are not interested in facts re- flu vaccine skip to the bottom to read my 8 alternative recommendations.)

In my 6 years of treating patients, in clinics such as the Arhtur Ashe clinic at UCLA, Being Alive HIV clinic in LA and in my own practice in Baltimore as well as in the San Francisco Bay area, I will tell you that out of the patients I saw who had received the flu vaccine compared to those who had not received it, did in fact get either the flu or became sick within days of being vaccinated.

The American Thoracic Societyโ€™s 105th International Conference, May 15-20, 2009 in San Diego revealed that, "In fact, children who get the flu vaccine are more at risk for hospitalization than children who do not get the vaccine." ย And, (from "Vaccines for preventing influenza in healthy adults." The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. 1 (2006), in a review of 48 reports including more than 66,000 adults, "Vaccination of healthy adults only reduced risk of influenza by 6% and reduced the number of missed work days by less than one day (0.16) days. It did not change the number of people needing to go to hospital or take time off work."

Egg proteins: : including avian contaminant viruses

Gelatin: : can cause allergic reactions and anaphylaxis are usually associated with sensitivity to egg or gelatin

Polysorbate 80 (Tween80โ„ข): can cause severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Also associated with inferility in female mice.

Formaldehyde: which is among the 8 new substances to be added to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services list of carcinogens.

Triton X100: a strong detergentย that should not be injected into the human bloodstream

Sucrose : table sugar

Resin:: known to cause allergic reactions

Gentamycin: an antibiotic

Thimerosal: mercury is still in multidose flu shot vials

By recommending flu shots to the public, the CDC and vaccine manufacturers are ignoring the warnings of not only major studies conducted by prominent universities, but also the EPA. The EPAโ€™s safety limit of mercury exposure is being exceeded by over 250 times each shot. In addition to a number of other โ€˜recommendedโ€™ vaccines, flu shots are dished out each year to the public, meaning that this exposure increases to 250 times the limit each year. Over a 10 year period, it is possible to exceed the limit by 2500 times simply by receiving a yearly flu shot.

So, now for the useful alternative solution! There are many ways to prevent getting the flu. I for one have not gotten the flu in 12 years, or even been sick in 7 years. (And ought to I mention, I have never received the flu vaccine) What do I do every year to protect my health? Please find the list below and I do hope you find it helpful.

1. Acupuncture (As an acupuncturist I am clearly biased but also an example of how effective it is in keeping a person healthy.)

2. Drink lots of water, but not more than 8 glasses/day as too much water can prevent absorbtion of necessary nutrients and minerals. (infusing water with lemon provides Vit C and flavors the water...try adding a few drops of stevia to sweeten it for a zero calrie, healthy flavored water!)

3. Eat fresh, ORGANIC vegetables (especially greens as they are rich in Vit C, fiber, iron and Vit K)

4. Drink Green tea and or ginger tea (although it is not wise to drink green tea while pregnant as it inhibits the absorption of folic acid.)

5. 35% H2O2, or hydrogen peroxide, in water. Food grade H2O2 is 35% and is the ONLY form safe and beneficial for internal ingestion. During flu season or if in contact with people who are sick, put 3 drops of 35% H2O2 in 8 oz water, 3 times/day and it will kill germs, oxygenate your blood and cells.

6. Drink elderberry juice

7. Sweat and Exercise, either 20 minutes daily (brisk walk) or 40 minutes aerobic exercise 3-4 times/week.

8. SUN =) get 10 minutes UNPROTECTED sun exposure when the sun is shining. We need Vitamin D to maintain a strong immune system! (I will blog about sun exposure in my next blog and the myth that the sun is bad for you.)
