James Joyce Pub Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The first time I heard O'Malley's March, our governor's band, I was quite impressed.  I had heard they were good but never had the opportunity to actually hear them in person.  That first time was an outdoor event in Catonsville and I remember how much I enyoyed the lively Irish tunes.

If you've never heard them, you have a chance to do so Thursday, Nov. 15, at the James Joyce Pub, 616 President Street, as the restaurant celebrates its 10th year in Harbor East. O'Malley proclaimed that day to be 'James Joyce Irish Pub in Baltimore Day.'

The pub itself has some interesting history.  It is, of course, named after the famed poet and novelist James Joyce (1882-1941).  Joyce was known for his many works, but perhaps his two most famous are 'Work in Progress' and 'Ulysses'.

The pub was designed and built in Ireland and then was shipped over in the fall of 2002 where it was fitted into its current space.  It opened in November of that year.  It has since established itself as being the 'Home of Irish Hospitality.'  Owner Jimmy Fagan saw an opportinity in the developing area of Harbor East and decided it was a perfect location for a pub.

James Joyce's menu is best described as contemporary Irish with an American flair.  Some of the traditional Irish dishes include fish & chips, Irish lamb stew, shepherd's pie and corned beef and cabbage.  They also do offer steaks and seafood.

They're open for lunch and dinner with a Sunday brunch, cigar bar menu, a happy hour and late nite menu.  Monday is burger night, Tuesday is trivia night, Wednesday is wine night and Thursday is Ladies Night.
