Lonely Hearts are Free at Baltimore Humane Society
The Lonely Hearts at Baltimore Humane Society are free during the month of February.
Meet the members of our Lonely Hearts Club.ย All during February these adoptable dogs, cats, and rabbits are free for adoption.ย So just who are the Lonely Hearts?ย These are the longest residents here at Baltimore Humane Society.ย That means they've been here for at least a year or longer.ย Because Baltimore Humane Society is a no-kill animal shelter, any pets that come to stay with us will continue to do until they are adopted into loving homes.ย ย
There is nothing wrong with the Lonely Hearts members; often times they are passed over for no reason at all.ย Perhaps they're the "wrong" color.ย Black cats are frequent victims of this color discrimination.ย Maybe they're seniors.ย Some of the shyer animals are also overlooked.ย A dog or cat who sits back in their cage is not the one visitors notice.ย Others who are stressed and acting hyper in the cages also don't show well.ย
What potential adopters need to understand, though, is that the kennels are not normal environments for the dogs and cats. Once they are out, even just after a few minutes, they transform into entirely different beings -- calm, loving, and so very appreciative of the attention. Of course, after being here so long some may need extra patience and kindness to teach them they can trust again, but that shouldnโt be a surprise.ย Imagine the stress they've been under!ย All it takes is a little time away from the shelter environment and they will not disappoint you with their loving companionship.ย

One example of a fantastic Lonely Heart dog is Diamond.ย It is a mystery to staff why she is still here.ย She loves all she meets and is extremely bright. Recently she has been treated to sleepovers at the home of staff.ย A little timid in her new surroundings at first, but an absolute dream all in all.ย She is quiet and will lie down and relax while you are busy.ย If you're free, though, she will delight in the chance to cuddle with you.ย Diamond will learn new commands very quickly.ย She's a fabulous dog, but if you take her to a trainer, you'll have an amazing dog in no time!ย An active owner who loves to hike or take long walks and has a yard where she can sun herself would be perfect!
Diamond and all the Lonely Hearts are free this month. They also will come home with you spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped.ย Take a look on Baltimore Humane Societyโs website or in the Lonely Hearts Catalog to view all the members. Mend the heart of one of our shelter guests.ย It will give you a happy heart as well.ย
