Notes from Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown
There's always lots going on at the Baltimore Humane Society. This week learn about the fun that will be had at Dogfest and a very special dog who's up for adoption.
Dogfest, the not-to-be-missed event of the year, takes place this coming Saturday, October 15th. Itโs a dog day extravaganza for pets and their owners!ย We're very excited because for the first time, it takes place on our own grounds in Reisterstown at 1601 Nicodemus Road.
There will be plenty of room for the tons of activities, games, events and contests on our 250-acre wildlife preserve. Here's just a sampling of all the fun the day will offer: Dog Bowling, Hide โn Seek, 20-Yard Dash, Bobbing for Bones, and Paw Print Painting. There will be swimming, agility courses, and Mary Swift Photographyโs Best of the Fest Photography Contest.
Not enough?ย Watch some fascinating demonstrations by the All-American Pit Bull Terriers, Mid-Atlantic Disc Dogs, and even Jousting!ย See if your dog qualifies for the AKC Canine Good Citizenship Award or enter your furry friend in some of our contests.ย Judged by a number of our area celebrities, including delegates and congressmen, your dog could be the winner of the Best Kiss, Best Costume, Best Trick, Best Dancer, or a number of other talents.ย There will be food, face painting, lots of dog rescue groups, and even a moonbounce.ย We expect as many as 10,000 attendees so don't miss it! The first 100 people (one per family) to enter will win a free HD Car Connect Radio courtesy of Northwest BMW.ย Purchase your tickets ahead of time at http://dogfest2011.org and beat the lines.

Now to a more sobering subject.ย Unfortunately, we have been operating at full capacity due to record high number of animal relinquishments and very low number of adoptions. Please come by and visit our dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbils, and other small animals and see if one might fit in your family.
Today I'd like to tell you about one of our guests, a dog named Barney. Barney is an American Foxhound mix who came to us from down South. ย Apparently, he was used as hunting dog, but now that he's getting older his owners no longer had use for him and turned him in to the local pound. Imagine if we did that to you as you started aging! You must come meet Barney. He is such a love.ย As soon as you meet him, he just comes up to you and stares soulfully into your eyes wanting to be pet and loved. Whoever adopts Barney will hit the jackpot with a loving, life-long companion. So come by and meet Barney and almost 200 other pets looking for forever homes.ย
