Outdoors Maryland 25th Anniversary Special Airs April 2 on MPT

Weekly program has tallied 700 stories, 37 Emmyยฎ Awards

A one-hour, primetime special of Maryland Public Televisionโ€™s long-running Outdoors Maryland series will be broadcast on Tuesday, April 2 at 8 p.m.

Marking the programโ€™s 25th anniversary and its quarter-century partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the broadcast will feature a look back to early stories such as the hunt for the giant Hellbender salamander (it was found) and the story of a Potomac River fishing expedition of now-retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (she caught a largemouth bass).ย  Viewersโ€™ favorite stories will be highlighted, and behind-the-scenes features will be included in the 60-minute program.

In its 25-year run, Outdoors Maryland has covered roughly 700 individual stories from across Maryland and has earned 37 regional Emmyยฎ Awards.ย  Producer Mike English has steered the program for the past 22 years.

Outdoors Maryland is made possible by a grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources .ย  Other sponsors of the series have included the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences, the Chesapeake Bay Trust, Constellation Energy, and the Southern Maryland Energy Coop.

Following its April 2 broadcast at 8 pm, the anniversary special will be rebroadcast at midnight on April 3 and again at 8 pm on May 29.
