It's the most wonderful time of year again: ice cream time. When I was a kid my family had a tradition of going every weekend to get a cone "upstreet" in our neighborhood of Squirrel Hill in my hometown of Pittsburgh. I always got vanilla, then in junior high in the 80s, I switched to gnarly, Valley girl-esque pink bubblegum flavor.
As an sensible adult and now mother, I've gone back to the pure innocent pleasure of vanilla. (Say what you will about what this means about me.)
Now that Owings Mills is my hometown, I wonder: who has the best ice cream? Dear reader, tell me, who? Rita's? Cold Stone? Do you make your own?
