Phat Cat Fitness Camp Is In Session At Baltimore Humane Society

Phat Cat Fitness Camp is in session. Please join us for the first of three interactive webinars on our Facebook page, http://facebook.com/bmorehumane, Monday, May 7 at 3 pm.

Obesity is not just a problem for humans in this country.ย  Did you know that 1 out of 2 dogs and cats are overweight or obese?ย  That's why the Baltimore Humane Society formed the Phat Cat Fitness Camp.ย  We chose seven of our stoutest cats to be Phat Cat campers.ย  Our goal is to get them down to a healthy weight over a twelve week period.ย

Why only cats?ย  Well, part of the program is meant to teach pet owners throughout the community what they can do to get their own pets healthy. Most dog owners know what to do with dogs for exercise -- throw a ball, take walks and hikes, run around and play in the yard.ย  But when it comes to cats, most owners are baffled as to how to exercise their feline pets.ย

Each week of the Phat Cat Fitness Camp we will be posting a new instructive video so cat owners can follow along and learn effective ways to get their own cats fit.ย  We will also be holding three interactive webinars.ย

This Monday we will be holding the first of the series.ย  Hosted by Dr. Zink, our Medical Director, the topic will be Body Condition Scoring and Weighing.ย  It will take place on our Facebook page - facebook.com/bmorehumane, and you will be able to participate with questions and comments.
Please remember to join us at 3 pm! It's free to the public.ย

The next two webinars on our Facebook page will be:

The way to encourage cat play is different from how you encourage dogs.ย  Take part in this webinar and learn some fun forms of cat play.ย  Dr. Zink and vet tech, Amanda, will also take your questions.ย

Food and Your Cat's Weight Loss - Monday, May 21 ย  3pm-4pm

Learn now to calculate your catโ€™s caloric needs and choose a food for your cat.ย  Youโ€™ll also discover new ways to offer the food in order toย  encourage your catโ€™s natural hunting instincts.ย  Dr. Zink and vet tech, Amanda,ย  will also take your questions.ย

Take a look around on our Phat Cat Fitness Camp webpages. You'll learn all kinds of information, see some great fitness ideas for cats, and of course, get to know our seven Phat Cat Campers. All of the campers are up for adoption.ย  If you would like to bring one into your family, we will help you continue the fitness program at home.ย
