This Saturday, May 7th brings one of the the finest things that I have ever been a part of at Franklin High School. The Senior Citizen's Prom (SCP). At this point in my career, I am no longer really involved, but let me share with you what a great event it is!
When I started at Franklin 15 years ago, the SCP was a small event. Between 50 and 100 Senior Citizen's were invited to dinner and dancing in the Franklin gym. Now, there are usually between 200 and 300 guests! The Franklin SGA provides the wait staff (and dance partners) and the Jazz Band provides the entertainment. For 12 years, I directed the Jazz Band at the event and for 7 years I sponsored the SGA. Every year there was at least one great, unique, incredibly positiveย moment. If you know a senior citizen who is looking for a great evening, make sure to call the high school and get them on the mailing list for next year!
Too often, we focus on all the bad things that go on with high school students and in schools. This is one prime example of a great thing that happens in a high school and you'll likely never see it on the news!
