Welcome to the Era of Endless Campaigning

Why are we talking about Election 2016 when we have not even had the Inauguration? Have we entered the endless campaign zone?

One month ago, President Obama won reelection, but if you are
watching television today you would think the campaign is still going strong.

Now the pundits have moved to 2016. Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan are being touted on the Republican side, and Hillary Clinton is being touted as the Democratic favorite. Why are we having this conversation at this moment?

The president will not be sworn in for his second term until next month, but the conversation is focusing on the next occuppant of the Oval Office. So if politicians spend this much time concentrating on the next election than when do they govern?

We have the fiscal cliff looming large, but both parties are posturing. When will they get tired of waiting for the other side to blink? Who gets hurt in this era of endless campaigning? We do.

Right now we are seeing Congressman acting as individual entities accountable to interest groups, Pacs and lobbyists, but what about us?

We payย for these people to represent us, not to just campaign for the office and thenย spend the next two years (House) and six years (Senate) campaigning for their next run, but this is not going to stop until the people start making the people they sent to Congress do the job they are being paid to do.
