Brigance Brigade Foundation to Kick Off ALS Awareness Month
Family-friendly fitness and fun event hosted by former NFL player to benefit people battling ALS.
Registration is Now Open for Sunday, May 1st Event to Benefit People Battling ALS
The Brigance Brigade Foundation, an organization that supports people battling ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) and their families created by former NFL player O.J. Brigance and his wife Chanda, today announced that registration is now open for their 3rd annual 5.7K Championship Run & 1.57 Mile Family Run/Walk. The 5.7K event, which benefits the foundation’s mission to equip, encourage and empower people living with ALS, will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Canton Waterfront Park, in Baltimore, Md.

The family-friendly event will kick off ALS Awareness Month for the foundation. Throughout the month of May, organizations across the country will work to heighten public awareness of ALS and generate support and funds for various initiatives including research, and the main mission of the Brigance Brigade Foundation, providing people battling ALS and their families with access to equipment, support services and resource guidance.
In honor of former Baltimore Ravens player O.J. Brigance’s jersey number (57), the event will include a timed 5.7K run, a new and improved 1.57 mile family run/walk, and a Kid’s Fun Run for youth ages 8 and under. After the races, participants are invited to spend the morning at the event’s Celebration Village which will feature music, snacks and beverages for purchase, harbor views, vendor tables and tents and a Kid’s Fun Zone including games and more.

“The Brigance Brigade Foundation feels extremely lucky that we get to host our 3rd annual 5.7K Championship Run at such an important time of year for people battling ALS, their families and caregivers – ALS Awareness Month,” said O.J. Brigance, co-founder of the Brigance Brigade Foundation. “At this year’s event, we will also be launching a new program within the foundation aimed at supporting ALS caregivers who are on the front lines of this battle each and every day. Grab all of your friends and family and join us on May 1st for a morning of fun and exercise for a great cause!”
The Brigance Brigade 5.7K Championship Run & 1.57 Mile Fun Run/Walk is an extremely team friendly event and the Foundation encourages any and all family, friends, coworkers, sports teams, church groups, etc. to register and fundraise together. Corporate sponsorships are also available at multiple levels. Current sponsors include the Baltimore Ravens, Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, 98 Rock and WBAL-TV and Radio. The event will once again be professionally managed by Corrigan Sports Enterprises.

The Kid’s Fun Run costs $10 per child to enter. All participants receive a free event t-shirt with registration, 5.7K participants will also receive a commemorative race medal.
