Building Fire In Reisterstown Is Intentional: Officials

A live fire training exercise in Reisterstown will impact traffic along Main Street on Sunday, March 31.

REISTERSTOWN, MD — A building on fire in Reisterstown is no cause for alarm, officials say. That's because it is the site of a live fire training exercise on Sunday, March 31.

The fire is on Walgrove Road at Reisterstown Road/Main Street, according to the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company. Drivers should anticipate delays in the area of the fire ground, officials said.

Northbound Main Street/MD 140 will be down to one lane until the afternoon for the controlled burn at the acquired structure, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

Firefighters regularly hone their skills at training facilities through simulated fires, but conducting training in acquired structures exposes them to types of buildings they may find in Baltimore County to get a sense of how construction and layout affect search and rescue, smoke and fire travel and water application.

Members of the public may watch from a safe distance.
