Crime Reduction in Pikesville, Woodlawn Prompts Recognition

Five precincts in Baltimore County saw reductions in crime this year, and the local commanders were honored for their work.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD - Two precinct commanders in the area were recognized recently for reducing crime in 2015.

Capt. Jonathan Trentzsch, former Woodlawn precinct commander, and Pikesville Precinct Commander Capt. John McGann were both honored for helping crime in their precincts to decrease by 0.2 percent last year.

"These commanders and the officers that work for them have done an admirable job in reducing crime and I am proud of them," Chief Jim Johnson said in a statement.

"Every day, the members of the Baltimore County Police Department go out there and face criminals who are increasingly becoming more violent against law enforcement," Johnson said. "Despite this challenge, they do their best to make Baltimore County a safe place to live, work, and play."

Cockeysville and White Marsh also had decreases of 0.2 percent, while the most significant reduction in crime came in Dundalk, where police said there was a 1.1 percent reduction.

Overall, Baltimore County saw a 4.1 percent reduction in overall crime in the last five years, according to police.
