Woman Dies After Days Inn Fire In Woodlawn: Officials

Baltimore County firefighters said they handled a hotel fire Wednesday morning that resulted in death.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A woman died after fire broke out early Wednesday morning at Days Inn off Security Boulevard. Investigators said the blaze was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

Darline Nelson Grady, 61, of no fixed address, was taken to St. Agnes Hospital, where authorities said she was pronounced deceased.

Crews were dispatched at 12:20 a.m. to the Days Inn in the 1600 block of Whitehead Court, officials said.

There was a smell of burning, and firefighters found the fire in a second-floor room, where Grady was in critical condition, according to authorities. She was taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

By 12:42 a.m., officials said the fire was under control.
