Police Say DNA Links Convicted Murderer to Reisterstown Rape in Cold Case
A man who is in prison for murdering his wife in Owings Mills in 2008 has been linked to rape that occurred in Reisterstown in 2001, police say.
A convicted murderer has been charged in a rape that occurred in Reisterstown in 2001, according to Baltimore County Police.
Nankisoor Ramnath, 56, was found guilty of strangling his wife, Nirmala Maharaj, in their Owings Mills home in 2008, according to court documents.
Although the trail went cold on the second-degree rape case long ago, a DNA match, found in the department's Combined DNA Index System in December, led to new charges against Ramnath, who is already serving a 25-year sentence in his wife's murder, police said.

The incident occurred on Brookbury Drive, a neighborhood behind in Reisterstown. After meeting in a gas station and having lunch, a man raped the victim and fled on April 21, 2001, police said. The case was suspended in September of that year, when all leads were exhausted.
DNA collected from the scene was stored until the Maryland State Police confirmed Ramnath as a match in the CODIS, according to the release.
