Background about the Scholarship Fund and the Walk:
Phyllis was active for many years in the Reisterstown and Glyndon community. In one of her community roles, she chaired the Scholarship Committee for several years for Chartley Homeowners Association (CHA), which is one inspiration behind her memorial scholarship. The CHA Phyllis L. Daly Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to Chartley neighborhood students as they continue their education and encourages English majors.
The event also honors Phyl’s commitment to community and fun loving spirit. Phyl loved to dress up as the "Good Witch" on Halloween and sit outside and talk to the kids as they came to trick or treat. As the teenagers came later in the evening, she asked anyone over 13 to sing a song for the candy. She could be very persuasive, almost all of them sang and thus walked away, candy in hand, laughing and smiling.
