First Day, Free Backpacks, Immunizations: Back-to-School in Baltimore County 2016

When does school start in Baltimore County for the 2016-2017 academic year?

School starts for students in Baltimore County Public Schools this week, and several events are in store to help get kids ready.

Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 24, for Baltimore County public school students. See bell times for each school.

Before the big day, there will be backpack giveaways on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, from 3 to 7 p.m.:

These health centers will offer school immunization walk-ins Aug. 22 to Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

On the first day of school this week, the State Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon will visit five schools around the county — in Pikesville, Catonsville, Dundalk, Towson and Perry Hall — to usher in the new academic year. The visit in Pikesville will occur at the Northwest Academy of Health Sciences the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 24.

After school starts, there will be two holidays in the first month: On Monday, Sept. 5, classes are canceled for Labor Day; and on Monday, Sept. 12, school is out for professional development day.
