Garrison Man Dies After Being Shot By Officer: Police
One man died and another person was injured when an officer shot at a man in an Essex parking lot Saturday, May 16.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Police shot and killed an Owings Mills area man after receiving a call about a nuisance Saturday night in Essex, according to authorities. Officials said the man got out of a vehicle with a gun in a parking lot, leading to the shooting, which injured a second person. Neighbors disputed the recounting of events provided by police and reportedly said the shooting occurred as authorities tried to disperse a crowd, including small children, from a cookout.
Robert Johnson Jr., 29, of the unit block of Championship Court in Garrison, was taken to an area hospital, where he died, police said. A second person remains hospitalized for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, officials reported Sunday.
Police said an officer made contact with Johnson in the unit block of Skipjack Court in Essex, where authorities were called at 10:42 p.m. Saturday for a report of a nuisance. Johnson was armed with a gun when he got out of a vehicle, authorities reported.
