Gwynnbrook Avenue Bridge Reopens

Federal dollars paid for much of the new Owings Mills bridge, according to Baltimore County officials.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — A $2.6 million bridge opened this week in Owings Mills. The Gwynnbrook Avenue bridge was closed in 2016 after inspectors noted concerns about the integrity of the structure, according to a statement from Baltimore County. Crews spent the past six months working on building a replacement.

The existing 23-foot-long bridge was demolished, and construction began on the new bridge in July 2017.

To allow for the replacement bridge to be built, crews had to relocate a water line and put in place a stream diversion; the Gywnnbrook Avenue bridge runs over a tributary of the Gwynns Falls between Owings Mills Boulevard and Garrison Forest Road.

Now, a 50-foot-long by 53-foot-wide bridge is in place and opened as of Friday afternoon.

The two-lane, single-span bridge has sidewalks on both sides, according to county officials, who say about 7,000 vehicles are expected to travel the bridge daily.
