Hip Injury Sidelines Pitta For Season

It was just the third day of Baltimore Ravens training camp in Owings Mills, when an injury Saturday left tight end Dennis Pitta out for the season.

Pitta and Ravens safety James Ihedigbo collided in the end zone while Pitta was going for a pass from Joe Flacco, leaving Pitta seriously injured, as reported by the team’s official website.

The tight end underwent hip surgery Saturday night and Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he suffered a dislocated and fractured hip, according to the Ravens website.

Harbaugh confirmed Sunday that Pitta would be out for the season recovering from the injury.

Pitta released a statement on his Facebook page Sunday asking for prayers for a speedy recovery. “If it turns out that I am out for the season I have confidence for other teammates to step up and do their part. Keep the faith!” he wrote, according to Fox Baltimore.

Saturday’s practice could prove to be an expensive loss for the Ravens. Pitta was a big part of the team’s strong offense during their Super Bowl championship last season.

Pitta, 28, was a fourth-round pick of the Ravens in 2010, had 61 catches last year.
