Indians Football Improves to No. 14 in Metro Poll

After defeating Hereford, Franklin bumped up a spot in the Baltimore Sun's weekly poll. Its Friday night contest at Catonsville is one of four contenders for Fox45's Game of the Week.

After collecting back-to-back wins over two county powerhouse squads in its last two games, Franklin football finds themselves bumped up a spot to No. 14 in the Baltimore Sun’s metro poll this week.

Having shaken off the disappointment of a season opening loss to Henry Wise, the Indians have rebounded by knocking off Eastern Tech (13-2) and Hereford (24-19) to improve to 2-1 on the season.

However, Franklin’s schedule doesn’t get any easier.

The Indians travel to No. 15 Catonsville Friday evening for its first true road game and will look to hand the Comets (3-0) their first loss of the season on the school’s Homecoming.

"I tell the guys, our main goal all year long is to go 1-0 per week, the polls and all that, that’s great but, but our main goal is to win one game at a time," head coach Anthony Burgos said. "If we can do that, we put ourselves in a great position at the end of the year

Catonsville has earned wins over Boys Latin, Perry Hall and Woodlawn, defeating the trio by a combined 94-44. Averaging over 31 points per game, the Comets have been particularly dominant in the second half, where they’ve outscored their opponents a combined 48-18.

Friday night’s game is also in the running for Fox45’s Game of the Week. Fans can cast their vote here, as winners will be announced Thursday night.

“It’s a tremendous game. It’s a big rivalry for us," Burgos said. "We’ve played in some great football games against each other. It's an opportunity to go out and play a quality opponent.  It’ll be a great test on both sides of the ball."
