Junior Achievement Announces New Board Members

Education non-profit taps attorney and banking executives for three-year terms

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Junior Achievement of Central Maryland (JACMD) has appointed the following business leaders to three-year terms on its board of directors:

-Ranak K. Jasani: An attorney with Miles & Stockbridge, Jasani represents businesses in a variety of commercial matters in state and federal courts, at both trial and appellate levels. Her litigation experience includes cases involving trade regulation and antitrust matters, intellectual property, contract disputes, fraud, commercial landlord/tenant actions, and general business and tort disputes. She previously was a business litigation associate with Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, where her work included serving as co-counsel to the Maryland General Assembly’s Special Committee on State Employee Rights and Protections. Jasani graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law, with honors, and was Editor-in-Chief of the Maryland Law Review. Prior to attending law school and commencing her law career, she was a publishing editor for Wolters Kluwer, an academic and scientific publishing house based in the Netherlands. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and studied abroad in Brussels, Belgium, where she held an internship with a member of the European Parliament.


-Lisa Schwartz: As M&T Bank’s business banking regional manager–Greater Baltimore, Schwartz leads the lending and servicing team that supports the branch network in Baltimore, Harford and Cecil counties. She also is responsible for the loan and deposit portfolios, as well as the development of new business. Bringing 26 years industry experience, she previously spent 15 years as a retail regional manager overseeing 12 to 21 branch managers. Earlier in her career, she taught an economics class at Western High School while working for Equitable Bank. A Loyola University graduate, Schwartz also serves on the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce.

-Robert A. Altieri: Altieri joined Howard Bank in 2013 as executive vice president, president of the mortgage division and head of specialty lending. He spent the previous 12 years as president and CEO of Carrollton (NASDAQ: CRRB), growing the Columbia-based bank to one of the largest in Greater Baltimore. Prior to joining the Carrolton Bank umbrella in 1991, he was vice president of lending at Bank 2000, N.A. and assistant vice president at Nationwide Lending Group, Inc. Altieri graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Leadership Howard County. Active in the community, he currently serves as director of House of Good Sheppard. He is a past director of Independent College Fund (IFUND) and Howard Hospital Foundation; past director and treasurer of Columbia Youth Hockey, Inc., and past president and director of Glenelg Hockey Club.


“Our board of directors provides the leadership, expertise and guidance critical to our success,” said Jennifer Bodensiek, president of Junior Achievement of Central Maryland. “Each of these members and their organizations understand the importance of preparing Maryland’s young people for success in college and career, and they support JA’s important role in that process.”

Overall, the JACMD board will focus on continued implementation of its strategic plan to expand outreach in targeted counties and student populations, as well as providing new resources to support the growing demand for entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness programs for young people that align with Maryland’s Common Core educational standards.
