Kamenetz Honors Schools on WashPo List

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz will present a poster to each of the 13 schools ranked nationally for their AP performance.

 and will be among the 13 schools recognized by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz  today for ranking nationally on The Washington Post High School Challenge List.

Kamenetz will present each of the county's ranked schools with a congratulatory poster at 3:30 p.m. the Old Courthouse in Towson, according to a press release.

No. 82 in Maryland and  No. 1,445 nationally on the list, and Franklin ranked No. 1,199, with no state rank.

's national rank was highest in the county, at No. 282, while ranked No. 1,830. 

It's the second year the publication has expanded the project to schools across the country. The challenge began 14 years ago when reporter Jay Mathews came up with the Challenge Index to rank high schools on their ability to prepare students for college.

The ranking formula divides the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other college-level tests a school gave in 2010 by the number of graduating seniors, according to a press release.
