Lacrosse Advances to NCAA Quarterfinals, Softball Eliminated: Stevenson Sports Roundup

Mustangs to face Roanoke Wednesday at Caves Athletics Complex.

Senior Neal Barthelme scored six goals, including three in the third quarter, as No. 3 Stevenson toppled visiting Cabrini, 13-8, Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament.

The Mustangs (18-2) advance to the quarterfinals on Wednesday (4 p.m.), when they will play host to No. 7 Roanoke at Caves Athletics Complex.

It will mark the fourth meeting between the schools in the past two seasons. Stevenson has won the other three, including a 16-6 decision on the road this past March.

To get there, the Mustangs rode a huge game by Barthelme, who set a school record for goals in the NCAA tournament.

Leading by one midway through the second quarter, Stevenson took control by scoring five straight goals to extend its lead to 9-3 with 10:03 to play in the third.

Softball eliminated at ECAC tournament
Wilson College scored a pair of unearned runs and pitcher Nicole Musser hold host Stevenson to just four hits, as the Phoenix topped the host Mustangs, 2-1, Wednesday in the opening round of the ECAC Division III South tournament.

It marked the first home loss since April 7 for Stevenson (22-18-1), which ended its season one win shy of a school record.

Wilson (23-11) advances to this weekend's double elimination tournament against Misericordia.

Down 2-0, the Mustangs tallied their lone run when junior Brittani Rynkowski scored from first on a single by junior Lisa Bilski and two-base throwing error. Bilski, however, was then caught trying to score from third on a wild pitch by Musser, ending the rally.

Women's lacrosse players honored
Four players from the Stevenson women's lacrosse team have been named first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference, the league announced.

Honorees included seniors Lisa Baker and Megan Weiss, and juniors Sarah Pincus and Jenny Schroeder. Juniors Emily Gartrell and Lauren Taguding also made the second team.

It marked the first post-season honors for Baker, Pincus, Schroeder and Gartrell.

Stevenson and Salisbury each had four first team honorees, leading the CAC.
