Lacrosse Earns First-Round NCAA Bye, Baseball Players Named All-Conference: Stevenson Sports Roundup
Mustangs to host second-round game in Owings Mills Saturday.

Stevenson University has earned a first-round bye in the upcoming Div. III men's lacrosse tournament, and will play host to a home game in the second round Saturday in Owings Mills, the NCAA announced Sunday night.
The third-ranked Mustangs (17-2), whose only losses this season came to defending national champion Tufts and state rival Salisbury—the latter in the Capital Athletic Conference title game —will face the winner of the first-round matchup between Cabrini and Widener.
Cabrini is the champion of the Colonial States Athletics Conference, while Widener captured the title in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Those teams are scheduled to meet on Wednesday.
A year ago, Stevenson advanced to the national semifinals before falling to Salisbury, 14-13.
This year's championship game is scheduled for May 29 at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium.
Baseball Player Named All-Conference
Stevenson baseball junior Justin Anderson has been named second-team All-Capital Athletic Conference, earning his second consecutive all-conference selection. He was named first team a year ago.
Anderson, also the Mustangs' Most Valuable Player for the second straight season, finished with a .322 batting average and 21 RBIs, both second on the team. He also racked up a team-best 46 hits, including three doubles and two home runs, and an eight-game hitting streak in February.
In three seasons, Anderson has hit .336 with 135 hits, 23 doubles, seven home runs and 47 RBIs.
Softball Players Earn Weekly Honors
The Stevenson softball team swept the Capital Athletic Conference honors for the second straight week last Monday when senior Desirae Sullivan was named Player of the Week and senior Julianne Roper Pitcher of the Week.
Sullivan, who shared the honor with Frostburg State freshman Caitlin Lovend, hit .643 in four games, going 9-for-14 with three doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored. She had at least two hits and one RBI in each game.
Roper earned the win in all four of Stevenson's victories, going 4-0 in three starts and one relief appearance. She totaled 12 strikeouts in 23.1 innings while increasing her school-record win total to 18.
In her last nine starts, Roper has allowed just 15 earned runs while totaling a 7-2 record, 1.74 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 60.1 innings pitched.
The honors came one week after Roper and teammate Brittani Rynkowski also earned the weekly awards.
Tennis Player Named Second-Team All-CAC
For the second straight season, Stevenson men's tennis junior Ted Cooke has been named second-team All-Capital Athletic Conference after leading the Mustangs in wins for the third consecutive year.
Cooke posted a 10-8 record at No. 1 singles. He also racked up six doubles victories while teaming with freshman Brian Bollman and senior Kevin Stamm at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively.
In three seasons with the Mustangs, Cooke has totaled 25 career singles victories, including 22 at No. 1 singles.
