Late Goal Sinks Stevenson in Season-Ending 13-12 Loss
Mustangs allow game-winner with 6 seconds left in NCAA quarterfinal against Roanoke.

A season of great hope came to a disappointing end for Stevenson University on Wednesday, as the third-ranked Mustangs gave up the game-winning goal with just 6 seconds left in a 13-12 loss to No. 7 Roanoke in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament at Caves Athletic Complex.
Stevenson (18-3) had beaten the Maroons three straight times over the past two seasons, including a 16-6 decision on the road this past March. It will be Roanoke, however, that travels to top-ranked Salisbury for the upcoming semifinals.
Down 6-4 early in the second quarter, Roanoke (17-3) scored six of the next seven goals -- all by different players -- to build a 10-7 lead near halftime.

The Mustangs rallied back to take a 12-11 lead on Jimmy Dailey's goal with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter. Down the stretch, however, it was the Maroons who finished the job.
First, Joey Coretti took a pass just outside the crease, faked once and fired a shot that found the bottom right of the net with 2:51 left. Then, Roanoke's Richard Lachlan gave his team the lead for good in the final seconds.
