Because of major damage, a section of Liberty Road was completely shut down Saturday night, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.
Liberty Road was closed between St. Luke’s Lane and Patterson Avenue, police reported Saturday night.
By Sunday morning, the road had reopened, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

“After the bridge over the Gwynns Falls had been plowed by State Highways crews, it was revealed that there was major surface structural damage to the roadway,” police said. “Officers described the situation as being able to look directly through the decking of the bridge down into the water.”
The State Highway Administration reported that a plow had gotten snagged on a joint, where the administration later installed a steel plate to cover the joint.

“The roadway joint is not part of the actual structure and does not impact the structural integrity of the bridge, which is rated in fair condition,” according to the report from the State Highway Administration.
“There was an unrelated incident on the overpass involving a vehicle that caught fire but did not damage the bridge,” the report said. ”[The State Highway Administration] reopened the roadway after securing the steel plate in the eastbound travel lanes. SHA will issue an update on the schedule for permanent repairs, which will be made during off-peak hours.”
