Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting on Liberty Road: Police

The man refused to drop a knife and did not drop it after being Tased, police said.

A man died following a police-involved shooting Saturday morning off Liberty Road, where the man allegedly approached officers with a knife, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.

He has been identified as Edward Donnell Bright Sr., 56, of the 9900 block of Southall Road in Randallstown, police said.

Two police officers responded to a call shortly after 2 a.m. at the 7-Eleven store in the 9800 block of Liberty Road, where a man was said to have a knife, according to the report.

Bright was standing outside the front of the store, and when the officers ordered him to drop the knife, he refused, the report said.

According to police, he approached the officers, who tried to subdue him with a Taser, and when that did not work and he continued to approach them with the knife, both officers shot the man.

Bright was given medical attention and taken to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

The two officers were placed on administrative leave, which is routine procedure in officer-involved shootings, police said. Neither was injured, according to police.

Officials said the Baltimore County Police Department’s homicide unit will investigate the case, which will be turned over to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
