Man Shot Outside Owings Mills Apartment: Police

Police said a man was returning to his Owings Mills home when he was shot and wounded by an unknown person.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — Police said an Owings Mills man was shot and injured in what investigators suspect was a robbery attempt outside his home. The suspect remains at large, and the victim was hospitalized with an injury that he is expected to survive.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police said a 21-year-old man returned home to his apartment in the 300 block of Pleasant Ridge Drive Sunday night when he realized someone was behind him with a handgun.

He turned, fought with the suspect and was shot when the gun went off during the struggle, police said.

Officials called to the scene at 10:50 p.m. on Sunday said they found the victim shot in an upper extremity and took him to an area hospital for treatment of an injury believed to be non-life-threatening.

"Police are continuing their investigation to determine a motive for this incident but preliminarily believe this was an attempted robbery," the Baltimore County Police Department reported on Tuesday.
